EKOTA CARE TRUST LTD
The word Ekota in Bengali means Unity and in an increasingly difficult context, in which the BAME community including Older people faces numerous challenges including living in poverty and challenges with English as a first language, high level of isolation and segregation, we aim to make a difference and deliver culturally sensitive projects’ services that will impact the lives of our beneficiaries and ultimately improve our standard of life.
Ekota Care Trust is a not-for profit charity organisation which was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee on 29 April 2013 and as a Charity on 18 March 2014 by concerned Members of the local BAME Communities including Older people who recognised that a number of residents in target boroughs and areas had specific needs.
They wanted to help on a charitable basis these people who were living in isolation with this range of emotional, social, health – related, disability and economic difficulties to help improve their quality of life through arranging different activities.
The organisation has been running a Diversity Luncheon Club and Home visit and Care, the frail elderly people since its establishment by voluntarily.
(1) The aim of the Luncheon Club is to promote healthy living, provide health advice, good diet to decrease social isolation of the older people, improve their self-confidence and improve their awareness of health, diet and other issues,
we aim to continue providing lunch three times a week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday
between 10am to 3pm for approximately 20 to 25 people who attend the club each week.
We also aim to organise outings, cultural & social events such as EID, DIWALI and Christmas etc. Activities include chair-based exercises, indoor games such as dominos, chess, playing card, group-watching of TV and video, reading newspaper, and serving healthy & nutritious food.
We plan to organise one festival a year.
(2) Home visit and care : Older people those are not attend the centre ,need urgent then our volunteer visit their home and support . this service only emergency basis.
EKOTA seeks to address the social isolation and care needs of BAME Community elders and their carers in Newham and neighbouring boroughs, and improve their quality of life.
